Saadh Ka Ang (Saadh Sang Sansaar Mein)

In this Shabad, Dayabai Ji beautifully explains the greatness of Sadh Sangat, the company of true saints and spiritually awakened souls. She says that human birth itself is rare, but attaining the association of saints is even more precious because it removes the three kinds of worldly sufferings and fills the heart with peace and wisdom. Saints are described as fearless like lions, whose spiritual knowledge destroys ignorance, confusion, and attachment.

Saints

साध संग संसार में दुरलभ मनुष सरीर।
सतसंगति सूँ मिटत है त्रिबिध ताप की पीर॥

Saadh sang sansaar mein durlabh manush sareer,
Satsangati sun mitat hai tribidh taap ki peer.

The company of the saints is rare indeed and so is a human birth.
Through the company of the saints, the anguish of the three fevers is eliminated.

साधू सिंह समान है गरजत अनुभव ज्ञान।
करम भरम सब भजि गये, 'दया' दुरया अज्ञान॥

Saadhu sinh samaan hai garajat anubhav gyaan,
Karam bharam sab bhaji gaye, 'Daya' duraya agyaan.

A saint is like a lion, he proclaims his own experience and wisdom fearlessly;
all karma and delusion flee, O Daya, and ignorance is dispelled forever.

साध रूप हरि आप हैं पावन परम पुरान।
मेटैं दुबिधा जीव की सब का करैं कल्यान॥

Saadh roop Hari aap hain paavan param puraan,
Metain dubidha jeev ki sab ka karain kalyaan.

A saint is the manifest form of the Lord, pure, supreme, primordial.
He eradicates all doubts from one's mind and grants salvation to all.

साध संग छिन एक को पुन्न न बरन्यो जाय।
रति उपजै हरि नाम सूँ सबही पाप बिलाय॥

Saadh sang chhin ek ko punn na baranyo jaay,
Rati upajai Hari naam sun sabhi paap bilaay.

The merit of even a single moment spent in the company of the saints is indescribable.
It creates love for the Lord's Nam, which destroys all sins.

कोटि जज्ञ ब्रत नेम तिथि साध संग में होय।
बिषय ब्याधि सब मिटत हैं सांति रूप सुख जोय॥

Koti jagya brat nem tithi saadh sang mein hoy,
Bishay byaadhi sab mitat hain saanti roop sukh joy.

The company of the saints encompasses the benefits of innumerable religious practices and observances;
it destroys all vices and miseries and one attains true bliss.

साधन के संसा नहीं 'दया' सर्ब सुख जान।
मन की दुबिधा मेट करि कियो राम-रस पान॥

Saadhan ke sansa nahin 'Daya' sarb sukh jaan,
Man ki dubidha met kari kiyo Raam-ras paan.

In the company of the saints, all doubts are removed; one obtains absolute bliss, says Daya.
All dilemmas are erased from one's mind and one enjoys the divine Nectar.

साधू सोई जानिये जाके हिरदे राम।
मान बड़ाई छोड़ कर सुमिरै आठौ जाम॥

Saadhu soi jaaniye jaake hirde Raam,
Maan badaai chhod kar sumirai aathau jaam.

Know only him to be a true saint in whose heart the Lord is manifest;
forsaking fame and honour he constantly remains in remembrance of the Lord.
